From Wiilliam Cottrell's private stock, this is perhaps one of the finest New Zealand colonial hallstands in rimu, burr totara, mottled kauri and puriri. Made in Auckland about 1890, it is an outstanding (naive) colonial example illustrated in "Furniture of the New Zealand Colonial Era 1830-1900" page 387 and belonged to the author. With original brass and porcelain hat and coat hooks, bevelled mirror, single drawer with ornate brass pulls this is very rare and one of the best known examples.
